In Memoriam
Aubrey Bert Huggard died peacefully at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge on March 15, 2006 in his 82nd year.
Born on October 4, 1924 in Windermere, he was the son of Bertie Huggard of Dee Bank, Watt Township and Catherine "Cassie" Howard of Lancashire, England.
Beloved husband of the late Betty Huggard (née MacDougall), whom he married on September 16, 1961 at St. George’s Anglican Church in Falkenburg.
Loving father of Kim (Janet) Huggard, Brian Huggard (Robin), Nancy (Dave) Aldred and Linda (Paul) Leonard. Dear grandfather to Heather, Brandon and Brice Huggard, Bradley, Amanda, Shane, Dylan and Jacob Aldred, and Cameron and Nicholas Leonard.
Aubrey leaves behind his brother Howard of Matheson. Predeceased by his siblings Leslie, Pearl, Frances, Beatrice, Jessie, Rena, Shirley, Betty and Harvey.
Aubrey did his early schooling in Windermere and then went on to work in the lumber camps, clearing lines for the Department of Highways, Dale McDermott and Ontario Hydro and later at Sweet & Low in Bracebridge.
In 1979, Aubrey moved his family to Matheson, Ontario, where he worked in the logging industry with his brother Howard, cutting timber, working on pulp wood slashers, etc, for Carl B Matthews Pulp and Paper.
He finished his working career working for Leo Alairie and Sons of Matheson.
He returned to Bracebidge in 1989 where he resumed selling his firewood to customers he had for years prior to moving to the north. He also did lawn cutting and general maintenance for cottagers out around the lakes.
Aubrey will best be remembered for his love of the outdoors, with chain saw in hand and a twinkle in his eye. He was always prepared to tell stories of early Muskoka.
At Aubrey’s request, there will be no service. His ashes will be buried next to his beloved Betty in the Ufford Cemetery.
